In 1939, the students and staff of RLSB’s school in Swiss Cottage were evacuated to Dorton House in Aylesbury, following the outbreak of WWII.
Here’s a photo of the gang in their new home, which was published in a wartime leaflet.
The caption with the photo reads:
Dorton House, a 300 year-old Manor, 13 miles from Aylesbury has been converted into a war emergency Residetial School for our Swiss Cottage family. It is designed to house 200 pupils and staff. The work of all the various educational departments is being carried out without interruption. The above picture was taken after the assembley of the school for the autumn term.
